I recently started reading the Color of Magic, the first of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, and already I'm convinced he is my favorite author of all time. I absolutely love his blend of traditional fantasy elements with some truly creative world building and knee-slapping humor laced throughout. His style is extremely appealing, effective, and easy to read. I want to write like him one day.

Oh my god, you just started? Oh, what the journey you will have. :D

The Night's Watch is probably my favorite group... and not just because the main character's name is Sam. :P

(I own all the Discworld books up to Going Postal. Haven't had a chance to catch the most recent two.)

Yea, just started. I hadn't even heard about it until a friend at work told me and let me borrow it. But I hope to get caught up quick.

It's easy reading, and the books aren't gigantic, so it shouldn't take you long to get through all 35 books. ;)

I LOVE Pterry, with a passion I share only with red wine and chocolate. I actually enjoyed the Long Earth and have the sequel ready to read.

Most recent 2? there's 7 after Going Postal - Thud!, Wintersmith, Making Money, I Shall Wear Midnight, Snuff and Raising Steam.

Raising Steam... I am heartbroken to say seemed to have lost the edge... I gave up after a couple of chapters but still have it ready to try again. If anyone has read it then I should be delighted to read a good review, cos almost all the ones I read agreed with me.

The wiki list and info

If 40 books is overwhelming you can read them in 'themes'

City Watch
Witches
Rincewind and Unseen University
Death
Moist Von Lipwig

You do not need to read them all though some do feed into the next.

There are also BBC productions of some - Hogfather, Colour of Magic and Going Postal all of which are awesome. I 'obtained' copies very easily.

:hand: Those other five are "Young Adult" novels, and I don't count them in the main list. :P

Yeah, the movies are good. :D

Theming your reading is a valid approach, but personally I couldn't do that... I had to just devour them in published order. (Also, some reference past events in other "themes".)

Terry has a list of the order they shod be read. Not necessarily the order they are published in

If you have the English one I'd love to see it. Since I'm just starting its perfect timing.

http://www.lspace.org/books/reading-order-guides/ then click English or whatever you want to read in :)

But as I started mid way through on a random book and then picked them as they came available in the library I can attest that it really does not matter what order you read them in :)
