Are there any Linux users out there? Just curious.

Windows 10 was the last straw for me. The OS treadmill is one thing, but they was Microsoft has been pushing their "Free Upgrade" has been borderline harassment. So....

I popped a new hard drive in my laptop and installed CentOS 7.

"Why CentOS?" You ask. "Why not Ubuntu?" You ask.

The answer is simple, yet multi-facetes. The short answer is simply: preference.

The long version is that I prefer the Red Hat derivatives for multiple reasons. First, I am an old Red Hat user from the nineties, so there is a trend to deviate towards familiarity. Secondly, I want to be more proficient with Enterprise level Linux OSes, since that will offered me more clout in my job. Thirdly, I just don't particularly care for the Debian-based Linux flavors, yet, this is for reasons that even I cannot quite articulate. I've grid Ubuntu, Mint, and Elementary and I just don't care for them.

So....CentOS it is!

I've thus far been able to get 99% of what I do in Windows replicated and usable in Linux, including my all-time FOS love, Urban Terror. I'm using Code::Blocks and the GNU compiler to replace Visual Studio. The only thing that I cannot get working is 32-bit GPU support in Wine. Wine is working, but anything that required DirectX rendering bombs. I will continue to try to get this working in my current x64 environment using chroot, but in the mean time, I have to swap hard drives to continue to play that one single game that I need Windows for.

Other than that one issue, I am so loving my move back to Linux.

A lot of people seem to. Try as I might, I couldn't find anybody else out there that had the same "Windows 10 is utter rubbish" mentality that I have. Which is odd, because I never really minded the past failed Windows versions. Vista; didn't mind it. Windows 8; didn't mind it. Windows 10; loathe it.

Plus the whole "$7 per month to use it" is for the birds. It's coming. Microsoft said it was only for "enterprise" users, but just wait. Once Windows 10 has proliferated itself in society enough, you'll get a pop-up at login:

"Like Windows 10? Continue using it for just $7.00 per month."

My god this is an old post... O.o But...

If they try to force a payment for something we already have, Microsoft will find itself a sudden and gigantic drop in userbase.

Also, I love Win10. So much better than 8.1 ever was. Probably the best OS they've made since XP.
